Ellen Langell comes to Summit Settlements with 20 years of claims department experience working for a California Workers’ Compensation insurance carrier, including 6 years of negotiating Structured Settlements for workers with catastrophic injuries. Since 2009 she has devoted her time to advising California Applicant Attorneys regarding annuity settlements for their clients.

Her insurance carrier experience allowed her the unique responsibility of setting case reserves on longstanding catastrophic injury cases giving her a keen insight into the aging process’ effect on significantly disabled persons and the medical expenses that will ensue over the course of time. This assignment provided her with a thorough understanding of settlement valuation and the ability to develop an appropriate payout schedule for the injured person, to insure that their future medical needs are met. Ms. Langell is expert in all aspects of California Workers’ Compensation, including subrogation and the Medicare Secondary Payer Program.

Ms. Langell has recently attained status as a Certified Medicare Secondary Payer Professional (CMSP). This is a new designation that requires a more robust understanding of the MSP history, policy and procedures.

Her extensive knowledge in these areas, and thoughtful assessment of needs, has led her to be a leader in Structured Settlements and has earned her the respect of attorneys representing both the Applicant and the Defense. She is available to provide direct assistance to clients and attorneys and will attend court hearings, mediations and other settlement negotiations.

Ms. Langell earned a bachelor of arts at Sonoma State University graduating with honors and distinction in History (1988). She holds an insurance license in Life-Only, Accident and Health (CA #0G57649). She is a member of National Structured Settlement Trade Association, the California Applicant Attorney Association and National Alliance of Medicare Set-Aside Professionals.
